Waveny Unveils Partnership to Support New Canaan’s Caregivers of Alzheimer’s Residents at Home

Waveny LifeCare Network, in partnership with the New Canaan Community Foundation and Jim and Dede Bartlett, is proud to unveil a groundbreaking initiative aimed at assisting family members and primary caregivers of individuals grappling with memory loss and cognitive challenges.

The Navigator: Alzheimer’s at Home in New Canaan program is designed to serve as a vital resource for caregivers navigating the complexities of supporting loved ones with Alzheimer’s Disease. Often, caregivers find themselves facing daunting hurdles in accessing timely assistance at home, leading to feelings of isolation, heightened stress, financial strains, and the emotional toll of witnessing their loved one’s condition deteriorate.

Thanks to the generous support from the New Canaan Community Foundation and local benefactors Jim and Dede Bartlett, caregivers now have access to a dedicated Navigator round the clock, every day of the year. This invaluable resource offers guidance on a range of issues, from in-home care to available diagnostic and treatment options, ensuring caregivers never have to face their challenges alone.

Since its recent soft launch, the Navigator program, in collaboration with allied organizations and local healthcare professionals, has already reached 40 families in New Canaan. Unfortunately, with the prevalence of Alzheimer’s Disease on the rise, the demand for such services is only expected to increase. This program aims to meet this growing need by providing families and caregivers with comprehensive support and continuous access to essential services.

The Alzheimer’s at Home Program provides a comprehensive array of services, including assessments, education on the disease’s progression and healthcare services available, assistance with insurance and public benefits, coordination of care, priority respite care, safety evaluations, advance care planning, access to adult day programs, and emotional and cultural support.

This Navigator program is meticulously tailored to deliver a concierge-level service, entirely free to the New Canaan community, to address the evolving and unforeseen needs that arise when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease.
