Waveny LifeCare Network Expands Telemedicine Services to its Skilled Nursing Facility

Waveny LifeCare Network announces that it has expanded its secure, state-of-the-art Telemedicine Services Program to the Care Center, its in-patient Short-term Rehabilitation facility. Patients will be enrolled in the program upon admission, with real-time monitoring of blood pressure, pulse, blood oxygen levels and body weight, automatically transmitted to Waveny’s dedicated Telemedicine nursing staff.

The Bluetooth-enabled platform allows patients to videoconference with their current personal physician(s), empowering those health professionals to deliver dynamic, remote patient-centered care.

“There is no other in-patient Skilled Rehabilitation facility in our area offering this service,” said Waveny’s President and CEO Russ Barksdale. “Telemedicine securely captures vital monitoring and trend data which will enable the physician to make the best patient-centered decision for care. With Telemedicine we are reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and ED visits, while substantiating patient diagnosis, treatment and recovery potential.”

Each Telemedicine unit consists of a blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter and weight scale. The devices interface with a customizable tablet attached to a swing-arm at the patient’s bedside. The patient’s measurements are transmitted to Waveny’s Telemedicine Services hub, where nurses continuously monitor the data for variances and irregularities from baseline measurements, and coordinate intervention and treatment with the patient’s current physician(s).
