Caffeine & Carburetors Brings Back the Memories for Waveny’s Residents

Doug Zumbach, founder of the wildly popular Caffeine & Carburetors vintage automobile event series, recently spent eight weeks at Waveny LifeCare Network’s Care Center short-term rehabilitation unit and while there, he wondered how he could rally his Caffeine & Carburetors volunteers to do something special for Waveny’s residents: combine getting outdoors with his passion for old cars in a way that might illicit fond memories of yesteryear. Zumbach’s vision became Caffeine & Carburetors (Lite): On the Road, Bringing Back the Memories, an event that took place on Waveny’s Farm Road campus this past Sunday morning. Under late summer’s clear blue skies, over forty of Waveny’s memory care-assisted living residents, rehab patients, family members and volunteers came outside to see nine vintage cars, owned and operated by Caffeine & Carburetors volunteers who generously gave their time to cruise up to Waveny’s front entrance. Residents shared stories of their family adventures in automobiles of the era, chatted with car owners about their cherished memories, and selected which of the cars they would most like to “take home”. Whether the favorite car was the powder blue VW, the yellow Morgan convertible or Mr. Zumbach’s own 1964 Plymouth with the red interior, the event lived up to its promise of bringing back countless cherished memories. From the residents, staff and volunteers at Waveny, many thanks to Dough Zumbach and everyone who brought countless moments of happiness and joy through this special event. We hope to see you here at Waveny again soon!
